Mike was born in Mesa, Arizona, and spent his formative years as an Air Force brat. Eventually, Mike returned to Arizona and graduated from Prescott High School in 1998. He attended Charleston Southern University in Charleston, South Carolina, and graduated with honors in 2004. During college, Mike worked at the Charleston law firm of Ness, Motley, Loadholt, Richardson and Poole (now Motley, Rice) as a file clerk. At the time, Ness Motley was fresh off its historic victory against Big Tobacco, and Mike learned a lot about the hard work necessary to be successful in civil litigation.
Shortly after graduating, Mike hauled his horse and two Labrador retrievers to Dillon, Montana, to study Natural Horsemanship at the University of Montana Western. While attending UMW, Mike worked as an uncertified paralegal for the Dillon City Attorney and Beaverhead County Attorney offices. Mike also served as a reserve police officer for the Dillon Police Department from 2006-2008.
In 2008, Mike attended law school at the University of South Dakota. Mike served as class president, president of the R.D. Hurd Pro Bono Society, and member of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Board. Mike found his true passion as a member of the law school’s Trial Team. Mike earned his place on the team by winning the school’s closing statement competition during his first year. Over his second and third years, Mike and his team defeated perennial powerhouses like Stetson, Case Western Reserve, DePaul, Michigan State, Kentucky, and on a blustery afternoon in the Federal Courthouse in Downtown Chicago, Harvard. USD School of law recognized Mike for his contributions during law school by awarding him its Leadership and Service Award.
After graduation Mike clerked for the Honorable Loren Tucker (ret.) for three years. In 2014, Mike became the Deputy Beaverhead County Attorney and prosecuted a wide variety of crimes, from DUIs to sexual assaults. Mike secured multiple convictions and conducted misdemeanor and felony jury trials as well as multiple bench trials and contested hearings. Mike and his family moved to Helena in 2018 after accepting an offer from then-Attorney General Tim Fox to serve as Montana’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit prosecutor. Mike spent almost two years working on complex healthcare fraud cases and was appointed Special Assistant United States Attorney for the Health Care Fraud Task Force. Mike was responsible for recovering hundreds of thousands of dollars for the State and Federal arms of Medicaid. In 2020, Mike was promoted to a General Prosecutor, where he spent four years prosecuting complex homicide and rape cases, as well as multiple complicated Fish, Wildlife and Parks poaching cases. During those four years, Mike and his trial partners secured convictions in all but one of their homicide trials. Mike also secured dozens of additional convictions through plea agreements and conducted several contested sentencing hearings.
Mike joined Morrison Sherwood Wilson Deola in January of 2025 after 10 years as a prosecutor. Mike’s practice focuses on criminal defense, family law, victims’ rights and plaintiffs’ litigation. Mike and his wife Bree have four children who are all heavily involved in school and sports. Mike enjoys fly fishing, camping, and watching his children participate in their various activities. The title of Man’s Best Friend in the Gee household is hotly contested daily by two Bernese Mountain Dogs, an Akita, a Bengal cat, and a Ragdoll cat.
